Se encuentra en el Palacio de Regaleira en Sintra, Portugal y se le conoce como “Pozo Iniciático” ya que antiguamente se utilizaba en rituales masónicos para el proceso de iniciación. Se ingresa a través de una puerta que se abre gracias a un mecanismo oculto y tiene nueve niveles que descienden, haciendo alusión a los 9 círculos de la obra maestra, “La Divina Comedia”, de Dante Alighieri. En el fondo del pozo se encuentra plasmada sobre mármol, una rosa de los vientos sobre una cruz templaria, emblema de Carvalho Monteiro, primer propietario del lugar.
